Mother Of Nation Pavilion [Abu Dhabi - UAE]

“Fighter”

This pavilion sends a strong social statement about the role of women in society; it is an homage to strong women all over the arab world.

Women as protectors: The pavilion’s initial shape is inspired from the traditional abaya and veil ( a single sheet that twists and turns in order to take form). Originally fluid and curvy, the sheet mimics the posture of a protective mother.

Women as strong fighters: The initial object undergoes drastic transformation, what was once fragile and soft has morphed into a stronger more present model, similar to the role of women in our society. The strong lines were used intentionally in the aim of shattering the common notion that portrays women as only sensual weak and fragile beings.

Women as bearers and supporters of life: Life is usually symbolized by greenery water light sound… All these elements come together to shape the pavilion, which in turn comes to life due to the interactive structural LED pillars. These pillars are not only structural; being motion sensitive allows those panels to interact with people as they move beside them. Thus giving the pavilion a vibrant living body.
